review ASUS Lyra - Review

Thanks for your interesting video. I bought this Lyra a couple of years ago also, and we have only positive things about the Lyra o say also!! But maybe you can help me.. We have invested in a sunroof on to the house. And now it seems that the inverter, only will handle 2,4GH from the WIFI. And I have really tried to figure out how to have the Lyra seperate the 2,4GH and 5GH on the Lyra. Do you have any Idea how this can be managed and changed somewhere?! In most scenarios I will simply not work. Why? U need better signal in place where u have... week signal. So if u put device there it will change nothing because it will not be delivered the right level of signal. More, wireless extender are just crap - they use .... air to obtain source signal (where the problem already is). The only extender that will work is the one that use cable to obtain connection with Internet. Waist of money.

FIY, the repeaters doesn't work because it repeats the signal. Basically, it creates a second signal on the same frequency instead of amplifying the real signal... and this, quite simply, cannot work, period. You end up with two emitters on one radio frequency, thus they're conflicting against one another, and in many cases, it's gonna make you wi-fi even *worse*! Don't ask me why someone came up with this idea and got compagnies to manufacture this thing, because it simply doesn't make any sense! If, let's say, you had a signal at 2.4 Ghz, and a device could take this signal and transfer to to 4.5 or 5 Ghz, this would make sense, but you can get a router that output both anyway.
But with two signals at 2.4Ghz, your computer end up confusing the router signal with the second signal generated by the repeater, which is not linking to the router at all - it's just noise on the frequency. Somehow, if you're very lucky, your computer might use the noise to get to the router signal, but it will fail quite often.
BTW this is not just my opinion, experts in wi-fi explained this to me.

Why not use ethernet cabling? Much better than data over electrical cabling. It is also much better to use ethernet cabling between mesh routers (=ethernet backbone connection). If the devices were connected with ethernet cables. You would get the same speed everywhere. Like next to the router (ISP connection point). I know that the US is not a perfect country, like northern Europe, where building regulations force the installation of Ethernet cabling for the entire house.

Matt, the Amazon reviews on this product are low, any truth to them? My house is half the size of yours (same internet speed) and I lose speed (more then 70%) using my ASUS dual band and powerline adapters. IDo you recommend this for me?

good review. funny thing, every manufacturer says you can control kids internet access. if the kids are using ONLY wifi, yeah sure. but, even you mentioned the biggest problem with that idea (and you completely glossed over it): if you're kid is using a smartphone or tablet with 4G/LTE, they will turn off their wifi and just stream on the cell connection — 'problem solved', from the kids perspective. still waiting for mobile providers to give me an easy-to-use OFF button for cellular data for devices under the account.

How to trouble shoot when router colour turns orange

So... You went from 300 to 50 to 30... Ya sounds great...shoes does that mean my 60 is going to turn into 10 then 6?

Nice review Matthew. I would love to know what your walls and floors are made of. In the Netherlands most houses are built with thick concrete (sometimes reinforced) so that would really impact mesh performance.

Hey Thanks for the video. I'm thinking about getting a Mesh system. But do you get micro drops of Wifi when walking around in the house and for example games?
I have the problem to day that when my phone switches Wifi network it drops the connection for like 1-2 sec witch results in a DC in games

I love Asus routers but Asus Lyra disappoints me. Had it for 1 week and delivered back. Loose signal many times in my small 60 square meter apartment. I may purchase AC88U.
