Very helpful. I'm not much of a mechanic or handyman. This video was EXTREMELY helpful. The only issue I had was the pull tabs broke at the very beginning, so getting the battery unstuck was a task.

2:20 Should've connected the battery connector pins before sticking the battery to the case first...

It's 13C in my house. Is it a good idea to warm the phone by a heater before trying to remove the screen? Should this help to separate the adhesive? Or you can just not stick the new battery back down. Totally unnecessary!
Remove the rectangular metal device just below the battery, otherwise the angle is too sharp. You don't need to remove the screen at all if you hold it at an angle clamped by your hand against the phone. If it's cold warm the back of the phone with a blow heater or hairdryer or leave it back side up in the sun for 5 mins.

My problem is getting the screen off. I have the tools but i can't get them under the screen.

I pried the tab off the battery, started pulling on the sticky tape straight towards the bottom of the phone, just like you said. Managed to get out about 50cm when the tape broke. I did 2 iphones, a total of 4 tapes to remove, not one of them came out, not even close. I completely destroyed the batteries trying to pry them out of the case because there were more than 50% of the tape still holding it on. I managed to get the batteries out without burning down the house or myself, but what am I supposed to do with 2 crumpled up, completely open Li-ion batteries? Can't toss it into a battery recycle bin as I'm sure if I just as much as sneeze on them, they will catch on fire.

1st time trying to work on an iPhone. I repair PCs for a living so I thought, no problem to replace a battery. Immediately stripped the first screw head. Got the second one out fine. Those tiny screws are so delicate it's unbelievable. I recommend practicing on an old phone first and make sure you have the right tip or you'll strip the head so fast it will make your head spin. Then you're most likely "screwed." Now I have to take the phone into a shop and have them use a tiny tiny technical drill to get the stripped screw out.

Disconnecting the screen seems to be a very unnecessary step. I did and I’m still fighting to get the connectors aligned properly.
