Hello, we currently don’t have dedicated support on YouTube, but don’t worry—you can get 24/7 live assistance through Facebook, Twitter and Dell Community Forum (DCF). You could write to us there, and we’d be glad to look into this for you.

Would be good to mention that you need to remove the screw between the latches first or they won't pop the sides open!

Hey guys! I, too, I am looking to upgrade an Area 51 R2 (nvgtx 980ti/i75930K/ 32GB, DDR4/128GB, ssd/1500w, ps) and I see a lot of REALLY great questions, however, the answers seem to be missing/private?? It would be really super if other people could also have access to the answers to these questions! Some of them (the ?’s) I didn’t even really realize that I wanted to ask- until I saw someone else already had - and that, likewise, ‘Alienware Support’ ( or, someone knowledgeable) had already answered… Seems a waste for you guys to duplicate( or even more!) your efforts ... thx!
... maybe I’m just not viewing it correctly, using Safari for iPad...

Do the new 2080Ti fits in the R2 chassis?
- @GameAddict457
- 12 noviembre 2018 en 11:01
I replied myself: yes it does. There is way enough space for the card so no problem at all. Also, the 850watts PSU is enough to have it working. I replaced my 980 and the only difference was that I had to use the 2 extra pin connectors that are already included in the R2, but was not used by the 980. And important, as someone else also mentioned, you will have to remove the PCI-E screws AND the PCI-E locks. (I didn't see these ones at the beginning)

@@GameAddict457 Me, I remove the 3 GTX 980 to put a 1080 TI, but 1 slot allows its installation, and again it presses a socket.
It's not ideal.
I can not install it on another slot to do a test.
How did you do? I also have the Area 51 R2 as the video.

@@snipersenior HI, Not sure what you mean by pressing the socket. I only had the GTX980 and that's the one I replaced. I didn't have any problem with the socket. And yes, my R2 is like the one in the video.
- @snipersenior
- 27 enero 2019 en 06:30
@@GameAddict457 If you install a 1080 ti you can only put it on one of the 3 slots. I wanted to install it on the slot in the middle or bottom but cabling and socket prevents installation on another slot than the top and again, it touches a socket because the card is very long. Have you ever tried to do that?
- @GameAddict457
- 28 enero 2019 en 01:24
@@snipersenior Understood. To be honest I didn't see if the other sockets of the motherboard were compatible. I just used the same one that was taken by the GTX980.

Dear Alienware Services,
I have the Area51 R2 with one GTX 1080 Founder Edition and i would like to add a second GTX 1080 configured in SLI
Am i to buy the exact GTX 1080 Founder Edition from nVidia or i can buy a Founder Edition from another reseller like Gigabit, MSI, etc.?
Is there some specific stuffs to do to configure a SLI in the Area51 R2 or just install it and use the SLI cable?
Thank You!

Dear Alienware Services,
My Area 51 R2 is about 4 years old, came with a Amd R9 370 graphic card. Now i bought a MSI GTX 1080 X Gaming 8Gb graphic card.
Worked fine in game etc. But it had one weird side-effect. It caused the PSU (850W) to get a "coil-whine" ish noise, buzzing for as long as a game was running (except light games like Kerbal Space Program, then it remains silent like outside a game). With a minimal required supply of 500W i doubt it is overloading the PSU. Nothing is overclocked either.
ePSA and system assistance test indicated everything was all right and during the Stresstests it also didnt make noise, only does so when in game like PUBG / WoW etc.
Support did send a technician to replace the PSU. Same result on the new one. I swap it out for my old Amd R9 370 => Buzzing is gone... Sending the MSI back to get my money back for now.
Is this card not compatible for a Area 51 R2? or is there something wrong in the GPU, even when all tests say it has passed. The R9 370 is quite in need for a upgrade and im a bit at a loss which card propely fits with this pc.
Regards
(P.S: i know this is a video of 4 years ago, but i cant get any solid advice anywhere. Best shot is Alienware themselves)

I was not aware that it also had this Cpu requirement, indeed my cpu is a i7 5820K series so it might be a grounded statement. But i'm afraid that Dell doesnt provide these CPU's as upgrades in Belgium... so im likely dead in the water here.

There is a small screw found in between the two panel release levers that needs to come out, or the levers will be locked.

Looking to add a 2nd and possible third gpu for crypto mining. Going in an Area 51 R2 with GTX 1070 and 850w power supply. Not needing SLI. Will this work say with one or two more 1070's, 1080's, 1060's or a combination of them? I should be able to just pop them in the empty slots, connect the power and be good to go? Windows 10? Thanks!

Thank you for the reply. I was thinking the 850w PSU would be good for 3 GPUs as I'm not looking to output graphics on the 2 new ones, just mine some crypto on them. Can't afford more than one new GPU at this time anyway so I'll go ahead and add it soon. Thanks again.
